Donahue is my beloved border collie that is smarter than Einstein but quirky and weird in all the right ways. He affectionately goes by Hue or Huey at home. He was my first dog and I got him my Junior year of college at Auburn University. He is named after Mike Donahue, Auburn’s tenth head coach of football starting in 1905 and later athletics director. In 18 seasons coaching football at Auburn, Donahue amassed a record of 106–35–5 and had three squads go undefeated with four more suffering only one loss. His .743 career winning percentage is the second highest in Auburn history, surpassing notable coaches such as John Heisman, Ralph "Shug" Jordan, Pat Dye, Terry Bowden, and Tommy Tuberville. He was described as "a mouse-like little man with little to say, save when aroused, on which he was capable of utterances of great fire and fervor" and appropriately nicknamed Iron Mike. The main road running through Auburn that I walked to class regularly is named Donahue Drive. It was only fitting that a unique and quirky name bespoke my first little border collie that has been with me through thick and thin since 2019.

Huey is an “honorary spotty dog” in the house and loves to do all the things the Shorthairs do. He will even help you plant birds and make sure no birds get away. He herds the Shorthairs when they get rowdy, too, and operates as the police officer of the house. He has never met a stranger and loves kids more than anyone. His favorite pastime is playing basketball with my neighbors young kids. His favorite sport is dock diving and the highlight of his career was taking 9th place in Junior at the 2024 NADD National Championship and 3rd place in Junior at the 2024 NADD Southeast Regional. He has had a lot of time off between 2022-2023 and again in 2025 to recover from extensive injuries, but is coming back from injury in 2026 with the help of rehabilitation. Acupuncture and shock wave therapy has truly saved his quality of life. He will be back on the dock in 2026.

Huey is a pivotal part of who I am and the road that eventually led me to fall in love with dog sports and ethical dog breeding. It is only fitting he get his own page. Huey unfortunately struggles with anxiety and OCD and is not well-bred, but he is more than well-loved and is truly my heart and soul dog. There will never be another one like him. He is neutered and will never be bred, but I am grateful for him every day that he’s the reason I fell in love with all things dogs. We love you to the moon and back Donahue!
